Attorney Profile
Carl Covert’s practice
focuses on assisting clients of all sizes in contracts, licensing and
negotiation of business and consumer legal matters, with an emphasis on
intellectual property,
publishing, entertainment, and technology. Background
includes serving as outside counsel for various intellectual property companies, working
with both management and account executives in analyzing legal issues and
contractual matters for client's primary businesses.
Mr. Covert additionally provides counsel on
trademark preparation and prosecution matters, oppositions, and trademark
disputes.
Prior to opening his
practice, Mr. Covert was in-house counsel for Harcourt Brace in both San Antonio
and Orlando. As in-house counsel, Mr. Covert handled matters for the subsidiaries
of Sea World of Texas, The Psychological Corporation, and Holt Rinehart and
Winston. Mr. Covert was also responsible for managing the corporate litigation
and trademarks. Before that, he was an assistant criminal prosecutor in Tom
Green County, Texas. Mr. Covert is licensed to practice law in the states of
Texas and Florida.
Mr. Covert received his Law
degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio in 1985, where he was the
recipient of the Mark Fuchs scholarship; President of the Delta Theta Phi legal
fraternity; and intern at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
Mr.
Covert graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas State
University in San Marcos, Texas in 1981.

Federal District Court for the Western District of Texas - 1997.
